Packing the bags...again!

I'm packing my Frankly Night Owl Vera bags and heading out of town (again!).

Last weekend, the hubby and I stayed overnight at Foxwoods! We had a wonderful dinner at the Cedar Steak House and played some Craps, which is my favorite game to play when down at the Woods.

This weekend, the hubby and I got a last minute invite up to our friend's condo at Loon Mountain! He's heading up tonight and I'll be joining them tomorrow after my book club, which is reading an awesome local author who wrote "The Cheerleader", one of my all time favorites!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be safe out there :-)

Summertime... and the living is easy!

I stole this survey from Royar because I can't wait for summer!

1. Any vacations you are looking forward to this summer?

Yes! The hubby and I go to Lake George, NY every July for the 4th. I've mentioned it in a previous post but it's where we get to golf (Queensbury Country Club), shop (awesome outlets), and have fun (Great Escape amusement part, tea at the Sagamore, visit the historical forts!)

*Image from Google*
2. What is your favorite article of summer clothing (shoes are included)?
J.Crew shorts (5 inch length)  with a tank top and cardigan.

 3. What is your favorite summer drink (alcoholic or non)?
Iced Tea or Sweet Tea (although it's good all year long!)

4. Do you tan or burn?
Burn; I've got the fair English/Irish skin!

5. Any goals you are working toward this summer?
Last summer I took up walking every evening... This year I'm working up to running! I also need to plan my units for the next school year, and of course, home improvements around the house!

6. What is your favorite summertime food?
It is tied between watermelon and my mom's marinated chicken wings.
7. What song most says “summer” to you?
Hmmm, that is a hard question! I would say anything with a good beat that I can blast while driving in the car.

8. Any home improvement goals planned for this summer?
Of course, the kitchen needs to be finished with new kick board, painted baseboard, and I would love to add mosaic tile as a back splash. And of course, the landscaping and gardening. Can't wait to see those beautiful peonies!

9. What is one thing you hate to see at the beach?
Everything! I'm not a huge beach person. Give me a lake, or better, a pool!

10. Did you ever go to a summer camp?
Only once, between the summer of 4th and 5th grade. It is one of the things hubby and I want to provide for our children when it comes to that time. I think of the fun memories and experiences I missed out on :-(

Hard day's work...

Today one of my best friends (and AST sister) went up to the NH outlets and had a very preppy day! She bought the cutest outfit for her niece while I bought myself some new items for the closet!

I heart oxfords, especially Ralph Lauren classic style oxfords. I have the solid blue and a solid pink oxford, so I decided on the pink striped.

Per Muffy at The Daily Prep, I bought my first Ralph Lauren cable knit sweater in a cream color. I usually buy mine from J.Crew but I can easily say I'm converting over. It's a much thicker cable knit and it just feels like higher quality.

And the most exciting part, my first pair of Sperry's!!!! They are adorable... navy with a bit of plaid pattern on the side and tongue of the shoe. They are super comfortable and I'm looking forward to wearing them!

I also picked up a pair of Buttery Twill City Fit navy pants at J.Crew. For those who have been living under a rock, J.Crew gives both students and teachers 15% off their purchase. No trip shopping is complete without a stop into J.Crew!  Little side note, I worked at my local J.Crew when I was in college and that was one of my favorite jobs ever. Great clothes, great music, and great co-workers. I really miss those days!

Anyways, that was my day! I hope everyone else had a wonderful day and I appreciate you stopping by! Feel free to leave a little love below :-)

Many thanks to Paula and also Hopsy at Monograms and Manicures for hosting the Pink Swap!

Off to brunch! I'll be posting later with that dedication I mentioned before ;-)

You make me blush!

Preppy Lane has been so generous as to tag my humble blog for the 7 Facts Blog Award. You are too kind! If you've never been over to her blog (which would be hard to imagine because it is so cute!), you must pop over to say hello. Part of this award deems the blogger share 7 facts about themselves.... Here goes:

1. I am a huge Jane Austen fan. I re-read her books as often as I can, with Pride and Prejudice being my absolute favorite. I find something new each time I read it!

2. I drink around 3 cups of tea a day (most of the time decaf). It is my favorite drink, even on a hot summer day.

3. I was a bit of an overachiever in college... I was a Resident Advisor, Orientation Staff Member, did two years back to back of Student Government, and was involved in our local chapter of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.

4. I wear my pearl earrings every day, no matter the outfit. I usually forget to take them out at bedtime (bad me!!) so the hubby calls me "the classy sleeper".

5. Which brings me my next fact: I come from a long tradition of nappers. It is passed down from generation to generation. I don't mean catnaps... I mean at least 1 hour, usually 2 hour naps. It's like a warm hug!

6. I love my job! I am a middle school English teacher and I can honestly say I look forward to every Monday morning. My kiddies rock and make such a challenging job so much easier.

7. Every July, the hubby and I (and sometimes the in-laws) head to Lake George, NY. It's a family tradition that goes back to my mother-in-law's mother going as a little girl, so it means a lot to us. It has outlets, a fun amusement park, golfing (yes!!!), and I always have Afternoon Tea at the Sagamore Hotel and Resort.

On that note, I would like to tag the following blogs which I love dearly..."The rules are you have to share 7 facts about yourself then pass the award on to other bloggers! Make sure to say who awarded you and link it back to them"~From Preppy Lane

Danielle' s Brain Bits one of my oldest friends from high school.

Monograms and Manicures the first preppy blog I started reading, way back in 2008. She is one of my blogging inspirations!

Miss Janice another blog I started reading and finally followed the past few years.

Anyone else that is interested :-)

Tomorrow I have a special post in mind, dedicated to a very special girl. Stop by and say hello!

Giveway and a new friend!

Lonestar Prep, a new blog friend, clued me into to another blog and a generous giveaway. Preppy Lane is celebrating her first 50 followers (do I dare dream the same for my little home?) by giving away a beautiful hot pink Kate Spade wallet!!!!! Isn't she the best?!?! Run, do not walk, over to her blog to sign up and get to know a fellow preppy with great style and cute posts (I want to "borrow" her idea of Thankful Thursday, when she talks about the things in her life she is thankful for).

In regards to the weekend around here at the cottage, last weekend the hubby and I spent the majority of our time in Town (btw, my new love is the MET Back Bay on the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth...so yummy and how could you not love The Library Bar!!!) so this weekend we are staying in the country. I'm fighting off a cold picked up at school and hubby is doing some work around the cottage.

Thanks for stopping in! Have a super weekend :-)

What are your gifts?

I finished reading "Something Borrowed" yesterday and I'm changing gears. As a somewhat spiritual person (honestly, I'm feeling a bit far from that part of myself), I was intrigued by a book that a fellower blogger wrote recently. The book is called "One Thousand Gifts" and is written by the extremely talented Ann Voskamp (who blogs at A Holy Experience ). While only 42 pages in so far, I'm touched by her frankness, her soothing words, and her undying love of Christ. Although we come from different religious backgrounds (I converted to Catholicism 4 years this Easter), I hear a lot of myself throughout this book. If you are looking for a book that will touch your soul and spirit in a way you never imagined, this book is for you. Thank you for visiting! Come back soon :-)

Snow day!

New England is getting hammered with snow and we have no school today, so I've been relaxing fireside. BBC America is on in the background and I've just finished a lovely cup of English Breakfast tea (my personal favorite).

Today's post is dedicated to my favorite thing to do on days like this: reading!

As I said yesterday, I'm currently reading "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin. Fabulous chick lit book and I'm eager for the movie, which is coming out this spring.

I also have an obsession with magazine subscriptions. I currently receive Fitness magazine and Better Homes and Gardens. When I'm at the local bookstore, I usually pick up Martha Stewart magazine and Yankee Magazine. This week I picked up another magazine, but with a twist. It was the newest issue of Country Living, British edition.

No, I don't live in England (I wish!!!) but I was so taken by the cover and the first few articles that I had to have it. So far my favorite article is the Country Diary, which describes life in a typical English village. Another wonderful section is "Discovering Life's Simple Pleasures", which are smaller blurbs about books, nature, baking, places to go, things to make, etc. This month also included a half page section of The Art of Letter Writing!

What magazines do you love? Which ones do you literally run to the mailbox or bookstore for?

Welcome!

Welcome... thanks for visiting my new home. Some of you may know me from my other blog, Pink and Green Teacher or perhaps you stumbled here from some far off place. I'm dedicating this blog to my lifestyle and things that I find interesting regarding the field of preppy. I know there are ton of these types of blogs out there so I'll try my best to hold your attention. With that in mind, there has been a five must have list going around on the blogs I frequent and I wanted to throw my two cents in!

My Five Must Haves Whenever Heading to Town (or perhaps just hanging in the Country)

Longchamp Bag (in Navy)

Kate Spade Wallet (in my wedding colors)

Quickfire Cell (I'm getting a new phone soon, either Blackberry or IPhone)

Pink and Green Sensa Pen

Book of the moment: Currently re-reading "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin in time for the movie release!

One final note: You may be wondering about the name. It comes from my two loves: the British countryside where I plan on living some day (sorry to Mr. S, my wonderful husband, who isn't as enthusiastic about it) and also Town because of my love of traveling to Boston and NYC.

That's all for tonight. Thank you for visiting and feel free to leave a comment below!
